SHANGHAI TOUR - AFTER Cao Yang was the first community founded by the People's Republic of China in 1951 as a residence for working class people. It is typical of the communities built for local citizens, containing everything they need to live: schools, hospitals, nursing homes, shopping centers and local markets. During this five-hour excursion, you will start at the Free Market where the local agriculture is displayed and purchased. Then you'll see how the community works with its youngest and oldest citizens, with visits to a Kindergarten and Senior Citizen's College. Next, it's on to a Neighborhood meeting and lecture on the local customs, followed by a visit with a local family where you will discover what life is really like in Shanghai. The family will demonstrate the art of making Chinese dumplings, a traditional refreshment with thousands of years of history. And finally, you will have lunch with the locals.
